The Android 2.2 rollout has finally begun, starting with Google’s flagship phone, the Nexus One. Android 2.2, codename “FroYo,” was revealed last month at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco. It was a major leap forward for the open-source OS, featuring not only major speed upgrades, but Wi-Fi hotspot and tethering functionality, cloud-to-device integrations and Adobe Flash 10.1. While the newest version of the Google-build OS has been available for a short while now, today marks the official rollout of Android 2.2 to the masses. Most Nexus One owners can expect an over-the-air update sometime later today. Owners of other Android phones such as the HTC Evo or the Droid Incredible will have to wait a little while longer, however. Most Android phones run a customized version of the OS — HTC has the Sense UI, for example. It’s up to the phone manufacturers to implement rollouts of new OS updates, and most won’t be ready until August.
When we started our blog one of the things we wanted to do was highlight the customer service department. What better way to start doing that than letting you get to know them a little better. Our Customer service team is based in Serbia. You may be thinking “well the are not part of the team” WRONG! With today’s technologies it could not be easier to be in CONSTANT communication with them. Our teams make constant trips back and forth to check out the operations as well. These people could not be a bigger part of the ABACUS family. Something they hold near and dear to their hearts, aside from helping out you guys ;), is this amazing festival call the EXIT FESTIVAL. It is this big party where people from all over the world get together to share in great music and good times. I have never been but from what I hear it is Bucket list worthy. Check it out: http://www.exitfest.org/ Have any of you ever been, or heard of it? If you have we would love to hear your experience. I can’t wait to start sharing more and more about our team across the pond!!!
Now that the iPad has established it is the alpha dog in the market, Amazon has slashed the price of its Kindle to $189 from $259, and Barnes & Noble’s Wi-Fi-only version of the Nook will retail for $149. Those are prices that are almost to good to pass up. With the arrival of iOS 4, which brings Apple’s iBooks app to millions of devices, e-readers are also getting a new competitor: the iPhone. Although the iPhone lacks the larger screen and more book-friendly interface of the iPad, the barrier to entry is now ridiculously low, since all a current iPhone user has to do is download the free iBooks app and start browsing for titles with no extra hardware required. This drop in price has everything to do with, in my opinion, the dominance of the iPad in its early release. However if you are purely using these devices to “read” with then I just don’t think you can shy away from these prices. Would you get a Kindle or a Nook at those prices? I think I would! Remember we have all the accessories you could ever want for your E-reader or any other electronic device!
