Now that the iPad has established it is the alpha dog in the market, Amazon has slashed the price of its Kindle to $189 from $259, and Barnes & Noble’s Wi-Fi-only version of the Nook will retail for $149. Those are prices that are almost to good to pass up. With the arrival of iOS 4, which brings Apple’s iBooks app to millions of devices, e-readers are also getting a new competitor: the iPhone. Although the iPhone lacks the larger screen and more book-friendly interface of the iPad, the barrier to entry is now ridiculously low, since all a current iPhone user has to do is download the free iBooks app and start browsing for titles with no extra hardware required. This drop in price has everything to do with, in my opinion, the dominance of the iPad in its early release. However if you are purely using these devices to “read” with then I just don’t think you can shy away from these prices. Would you get a Kindle or a Nook at those prices? I think I would! Remember we have all the accessories you could ever want for your E-reader or any other electronic device!

Have you ever dropped some serious cash on expensive HDMI cables? Yeah me too. I just assumed that because the 13 year old kid with zits at Best Buy told me they were the best, and the cheaper ones sucked, that I HAD to go with the big dogs! I spent upwards of a hundred bucks on some cords that will make my picture amazingly clearer….I was wrong, and so was the 13 year old.
The truth is, when it comes to HDMI cables there is no difference between the expensive ones and the “bargain” price cords. Let me add before I get to carried away that companies like Monster will tell you I am wrong. So…… I must say this is my opinion. Hopefully I will be able to make my case and save you some money while doing it.
I say, since everything is digital, the cheaper cable will get the data from point A to point B as well as any other cable, it is that simple. I also say that if there are small (i.e. videophile-grade) differences in cables, the average TV watcher isn’t going to notice them. Video is not like Audio, I concede that when it comes to audio cords there are great differences. Video however is just a bunch of 1’s and 0’s, nothing changes. It’s just data going from one port to another.
At Abacus24-7.com we sell an alternative HDMI cable that is a quarter of the price of these “Name Brand” cables. While we do have a dog in this fight, I speak from personal experience. I have used both cables and there is NO difference (in my opinion). I own an HDTV and am an avid movie watcher and video game player. If there was a lack of quality I would know it and in turn spend more on the cables. After all why have a nice big TV if it looks like crap right?
If you own an expensive cable already I ask you to take my challenge. Get one of our cheap cables (I can get free shipping and 10% off if you leave comments) and try both cables. If your Monster cable shows a visible differnece let me know. I will publish your response here on this site for everyone to see. If you don’t see a difference well let me knwo that too and we will also throw that up on the site.
At the end of the day its all about truth and honesty. The truth is you could literally save a hundred bucks on an HDMI cable and get the same HD quality. So when you find this to be true tell your friends. They will thank you!
